Services

As with any service company, Gilliss Power Tongs relies heavily on our equipment, in addition to our personnel, to ensure our success when it comes to performing in the oil and gas industry. Our maintenance program and our aggressive equipment replacement program allow us to offer our customers quality equipment of any size needed to complete the job. With more new equipment than any casing service company in Southeast Saskatchewan, we are confident that we have reduced the possibility of lost time due to equipment failure.

We specialize in

  • Surface Casing
  • Intermediate Casing
  • Production Casing
  • And the running and retrieval of tubing and frac liners

Gilliss Power Tongs is implementing Air slips for all strings of pipe ranging from 2 3/8” to 7”. We believe that this method reduces pinch points between the conventional slips and the elevators. As well, we feel this will eliminate back injuries completely. All pneumatically controlled units operate using rig air. The slips can be manually operated if rig air pressure is lost. Safety is further ensured by a positive locking mechanism which locks the slips in the set position. Incidents have occurred where pipe was lost down the hole due to both human and mechanical error. The Type E pneumatic air slips, are constructed in such a way that they can be opened & closed to allow the pipe to be moved in either direction. The slip body cannot be removed from the pipe unless the gate is physically removed. This feature will prevent the slips being removed from the rotary table, due to accidental hoisting of casing; either by elevators catching the collar while picking up the next joint, or if the pipe hydraulics.

Also new for 2010; is a 9 5/8" integral back-up for a 9 5/8 LW tong. This backup is capable of biting any size pipe from 4 1/2" to 9 5/8". With the addition of this piece of equipment, Gilliss Power Tongs will be able to handle any service rig job, as well as any casing retrieval job on a drilling rig. This back-up will increase productivity and safety when laying down casing on the drilling rigs, and running or pulling casing on the service rigs.
